How do I get the app?

Download the app from the App Store or Google Play

Do I have to pay for the app?

No, the app is free to download from the App Store or Google Play. However, to enjoy unlimited articles beyond 5 free articles per month, you will need to become a subscriber to The Star Digital Access.

Do I need to register to use the app?

No, registration is not required to use the app. We recommend registering and signing-in with your Torstar Account, however, as it will unlock additional app benefits, including personalized content recommendations. In order to view unlimited content in the app, you will need to sign-in using your subscription account.

I’m a home-delivery subscriber. Do I have to pay to access thestar.com content using the app?

Home-delivery subscribers receive complimentary access to thestar.com. This same complimentary access applies to the app. Simply download the app and sign in using your Digital Access login. Haven’t setup your complimentary access to thestar.com yet? Click HERE to create an account.

How do I turn on breaking news push notifications?

If you have downloaded the app for the first time, you will be asked to allow push notification.

On version 8.21.0 or greater

You can manage your push notification settings from directly in the app. From the menu, select Settings and under the heading "Preferences" select Notifications. From here, you will be able to manage the notifications that you receive from the Star app.

How do I email or share an article?

Tap on the share icon in upper right corner of an article to share it with your friends via email, text message, or social media.

How do I change the size of the text?

Tap on the Tt icon in the upper right corner of an article and move the slider to the left or right to adjust the size of text in articles.

Can I use the app if I’m not connected to a cellular network or wi-fi?

No, you currently must be connected to a cellular network or wi-fi to access content.

Where can I find the Crossword or Sudoku in the app?

Crosswords and Sudoku games are currently not available in The Star App.

What is the minimum operating system supported by the Toronto Star App?
